KUZU ZANGPO LA!

Nestled in the Himalayan mountains Bhutan is a world apart. Unique for several reasons; well known for its blend of the old and new, Bhutan is heralded both as a tourist hot spot as well as an example for its development philosophy rooted in the values of Gross National Happiness (GNH).

Bhutan is described as, having a reputation for mystery and magic, where a traditional Buddhist culture carefully embraces global developments.” Bhutan’s traditional beliefs and customs encompass all sentient beings and encourage values such as tolerance, compassion, respect, and karma. Those who visit Bhutan describe it as a deeply spiritual and unforgettable experience.  Druk Yul, the local name for Bhutan, means “Land of the Thunder Dragon.” Landlocked and geographically isolated, Bhutan carefully and slowly opened to the world recently with roads being built in the 1960’s and TV and Internet were introduced only in 1999. There still exist several areas in Bhutan that live in a forgotten time today, following a simple life – making it more unique in today’s fast paced world.

While Bhutan is a small country, its cultural diversity and richness are profound. Bhutanese culture and Buddhist influence go hand-in-hand. The influence of religion is intertwined in everyday life and a major reason for Bhutan’s spiritual and cultural legacy. Come with us to meet with a people who are happy, friendly, hospitable and disciplined; a place where religion and culture permeates every aspect of our life.
